Whether young or old, male or female, professional and amateur athletes, the Dresdner Sportclub 1898 e.V. is one of the largest and most successful sports club in Dresden, offering a wide range of sports and exercise programs  in ten departments.

The Dresdner SC is a traditional multi-genre sports club with predominantly competitive orientation, especially in the area of junior athletes and with a large amateur sporting base. We are a talent pool for the local, state, and federal levels in a number of different sports. With approximately 4.000 members (as of january 2017), we are an essential part of the Dresden lifestyle and thereby an important part of local civil society; our doors are open to anyone interested in sports, who is committed to the principles and aims of the association.

The Dresdner Sportclub 1898 e.V. was founded on April 30, 1898, dissolved in 1945, and founded again in 1954 as SC Einheit Dresden. At the beginning, the main departments were football, athletics and cycling. Other sports activities have been added over the years. After the peaceful revolution, the Dresdner Sportclub 1898 e.V. was founded again in March 1990, and in April of the same year SC Einheit Dresden joined the association.

Our athletes have achieved numerous victories and placements in the Olympics, World and European Championships, and also at World and European Cups. The first great successes were at the 1936 Berlin Olympics by athletes Rudolf Harbig, Luise Krüger and Käthe Krauß. Helmut Schön playing with the Dresdner SC won the German football championships twice. Current front-runners of our Association are the Women's Volleyball Team, which competes in the first national league, the divers Tina Punzel, Sascha Klein and Martin Wolfram, and track and field athletes Jenny Elbe and Lars Hamann, acrobatic gymnasts as well as gymnast Marlene Bindig.
